NIS – Ministry of Energy, Development and Environmental Protection Zorana Mihajlovic stated Wednesday that there are investors who are interested in exploiting oil shale near Aleksinac, south-east Serbia.
The Serbian government and the ministries of energy and of natural resources, mining and spatial planning have to prepare a strategy and determine goals in this field, Mihajlovic told journalists in Nis.
She stated that research should be conducted to accurately determine the amounts of oil shale the country possesses, after which exploitation should be organized observing all the aspects of environmental protection.
The minister pointed out that it still has not been determined whether this will be dealt with by a state-owned company with majority or minority shares.
Next week, the government will discuss a program for restructuring the state-owned natural gas provider Srbijagas, she said.
Not disclosing any details of the program, the minister once again stressed that it should serve in the interest of the consumers and citizens of Serbia, which requires better service and sustainable price.
While in Nis, Mihajlovic attended a meeting between signatories of the Covenant of Mayors by which local self-government are obliged to implement energy Action Plans and reduce emissions by 20 percent by 2020.
