Jordanian PM, Estonian minister discuss oil shale project
ImageAmman, Feb 27 (Petra) -- Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour met on Thursday with Estonian Finance Minister Jurgen Ligi to discuss Estonian investments in the Kingdom, mainly in a project to generate electricity from oil shale that will benefit Jordan in a number of fields.
Once operational, the plant is projected to save Jordan some $300 million in heavy oil and diesel imports. It will also provide 3,500 job opportunities in the run up to its establishment and another 1,200 permanent job once the production process starts.
Ensour praised Estonia's interest in investing in Jordan, adding that the Kingdom enjoys security and stability that enables everyone to invest in the country, in addition to its geographical location that attracts investments from various parts of the world.
The Estonian minister said the successful implementation of the project is very important for his country, adding it will have social and economic benefits for Jordan.
He said that Estonia has an experience extending over a 100 years in using oil shale to generate electricity to meet the need at the local and regional levels.
On the Syrian crisis, Ligi said his country was coordinating with the EU countries to help Jordan in addressing challenges posed to it as a result of hosting a large number of Syrian refugees.
