Eesti Energia, known abroad as Enefit, has opened an oil shale testing plant in Frankfurt.
The company says the facility will allow it to analyze different types of oil shale and develop its oil shale technology. It will also help promote its technology to clients, a press release said.
Tests will first be conducted on Estonian oil shale, followed by tests on oil shale from Utah and Jordan in the next few weeks.
"We have already produced oil in a smaller testing device, with oil shale from Jordan and Utah, but the bigger the device, the more reliable the result is," CEO Sandor Liive was quoted as saying.
Preparations for building the facility began in 2010.
